The Markham Village BIA is currently looking to fill three temporary roles. Please see the Job descriptions below.

Marketing & Graphic Design Coordinator

The Markham Village Business Improvement Area (BIA) locally known as Main Street Markham is the original main street of the Village of Markham – one of Ontario’s oldest communities with a rich and interesting past. Today, Main Street Markham is a unique commercial district blending history and tradition with modern and new shops, spas, art studios, cafes, pubs, restaurants, services and activities. The function of a BIA is simply to promote the BIA and beautify the BIA.

Eligibility for participation in Canada Summer Jobs Program preferred. To be eligible, youth must:

  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment; be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment*; and, have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.

We are looking for an enthusiastic Marketing & Graphic Design Coordinator who is both creative and highly organized. This role involves working on building and designing complete marketing campaigns for print and digital both advertising and engagement. The role will also involve communicating with business owners, Setting up and tearing down of events and assisting with managing volunteers.

Roles and responsibilities 

  • Design Marketing materials, videos to use for Social Media promotion and event creation 

  • Design print material for events and promotions 

  • Develop signage for events and marketing design print and digital ads for marketing purposes 

  • Assist with Volunteer recruitment and management

  • Lead set up and tear down of weekly events (Farmers’ Market, Music on Main...etc.)

  • Connect with businesses to update on events, promotions...etc. 

  • Assist in the planning of future events

  • Organize small contests held throughout the summer 

  • Assist in development of  bi-weekly e-newsletters for businesses to stay informed. 

  • Assist in the development monthly e-newsletters to contact list about upcoming events to attract visitors.

  •  Social Media promotion, event creation, community management 

  • Design Print and digital ad work

  • Update website with artwork and content

  • Update online calendars to include event information

Requirements:

  • Ability to lift 50lbs.

  • Post Secondary education (Marketing Business or Event Management preferred)

  • Ability to work evenings and weekends

  • Great oral and written communication skills

  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Access, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel) and databases Adobe Suite)

  • Marketing and design creation (Adobe Suite knowledge an asset)

  • Familiar with social media campaigns

Evening and weekend work is required. Typical work week will be Tuesday to Saturday.

Estimated contract - May to September with possibility of extension.


Sponsorship and Volunteer Coordinator

We are looking for an enthusiastic Sponsorship and Volunteer Coordinator who is both confident and highly organized. This role involves working with many different stakeholders and individuals by communicating in person, by phone and email.  This role required a dedicated, organized person to work with obtaining, securing and retaining sponsors and volunteers for our annual events. This role will also assist with setting up and tearing down of events, managing volunteers, and relationship making.

Roles and responsibilities 

  • Communicate and secure sponsorships for annual events

  • Provide comprehensive packages to customize sponsor needs

  • Ensure all logos, requirements are in place for involvement

  • Provide print material for events and promotions 

  • Assist with activation spaces

  • Volunteer recruitment and management

  • Lead set up and tear down of weekly events (Farmers’ Market, Music on Main...etc.)

  • Assist in the planning of future events 

  • Organize small contests held throughout the summer (engage with sponsors)

  • Develop content for bi-weekly e-newsletters for businesses to stay informed. 

  • Develop content for  monthly e-newsletters to contact list about upcoming events to attract visitors.

  • Update databases
