Graphic Design + Social Media Coordinator

The Markham Village Business Improvement Area (BIA) locally known as Main Street Markham is the original main street of the Village of Markham – one of Ontario’s oldest communities with a rich, interesting past and progressive, exciting future. Today, Main Street Markham is a unique commercial district blending history and tradition with modern design and a multitude of offerings including retail shops, salons, spas, art studios, cafes, pubs, restaurants, professional services and activities. The function of a BIA is simply to promote and beautify the BIA.

Eligibility for participation in Canada Summer Jobs Program preferred. To be eligible, youth must:

Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment*; and, have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.


We are looking for an enthusiastic Graphic Design + Social Media Coordinator who is both creative and highly organized. The Graphic Design + Social Media Coordinator is an expert in total creative campaign solutions that maximize engagement. They work well both collaboratively and independently and have the ability to perform the role both in-office and remotely.


This role involves conceptualizing, designing, building and executing complete marketing campaigns for print and digital advertising use as well as some video and editing work.  The successful candidate will form on-going relationships with Main Street Markham business owners and oversee a multitude of coordinated marketing initiatives including day-to-day social media, promotional campaigns and more.

Roles and responsibilities 

  • Design Marketing materials, videos to use for Social Media promotion and event creation 

  • Design print material for events and promotions 

  • Develop signage for events and marketing design print and digital ads for marketing purposes 

  • Connect with businesses to update on events, promotions etc. 

  • Assist in the planning of future events & take detailed minutes during team meetings

  • Design, organize, track & execute promotions & contests 

  • Assist in development of  bi-weekly e-newsletters for businesses to stay informed. 

  • Social Media management; Development, promotion, event creation, community management, analytics reporting 

  • Update website with artwork and content

Requirements:

  • Ability to lift 50lbs.

  • Post Secondary education (Graphic Design, Videographer, Marketing Business or Event Management preferred)

  • Ability to work evenings and weekends

  • Exemplary oral and written communication skills
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Access, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel) and Google Workspace

  • Marketing and design creation (Canva Pro & Adobe Suite) 

  • Familiar with social media campaigns & social aggregation software (ie Hootsuite) 
     

Evening and weekend work is required.

Ability to work onsite and remotely as required.

Estimated contract - September - March (17.5 hours per week)

$15.00 per hour
