Graphic Designer

The Markham Village Business Improvement Area (BIA) locally known as Main Street Markham is the original main street of the Village of Markham – one of Ontario’s oldest communities with a rich and interesting past. Today, Main Street Markham is a unique commercial district blending history and tradition with modern and new shops, spas, art studios, cafes, pubs, restaurants, services and activities. The function of a BIA is simply to promote the BIA and beautify the BIA.

Eligibility for participation in Canada Summer Jobs Program preferred. To be eligible, youth must:

  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment; be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment*; and, have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.

We are looking for an enthusiastic Graphic Designer who is both creative and highly organized. This role involves working on building and designing complete marketing campaigns for print and digital content for advertising and engagement. The role will also involve video and editing.  The role will be communicating with business owners and coordinating marketing initiatives.

Roles and responsibilities 

  • Design Marketing materials, videos to use for Social Media promotion and event creation 

  • Design print material for events and promotions 

  • Develop signage for events and marketing design print and digital ads for marketing purposes 

  • Connect with businesses to update on events, promotions...etc. 

  • Assist in the planning of future events

  • Organize contests 

  • Assist in development of  bi-weekly e-newsletters for businesses to stay informed. 

  •  Social Media promotion, event creation, community management 

  • Update website with artwork and content

Requirements:

  • Ability to lift 50lbs.

  • Post Secondary education (Graphic Design, Videographer, Marketing Business or Event Management preferred)

  • Ability to work evenings and weekends

  • Great oral and written communication skills

  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Access, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel)

  • Marketing and design creation (Adobe Suite knowledge an asset)

  • Familiar with social media campaigns

Evening and weekend work is required. Remote and onsite work required.

Estimated contract - October to February (17.5 hours per week)

$14.25 per hour

 


Event Marketing Specialist

This role involves working with many different people by communicating with business owners and staff, collecting and updating data, designing online events and contests, and executing marketing campaigns.

  • Communicate with business owners to update their information 

  • Provide print material for events and promotions 

  • Develop campaigns to draw tourism to the street

  • Lead and plan event design and promotion 

  • Connect with businesses to update on events, promotions...etc. 

  • Organize small contests

  • Develop content for bi-weekly e-newsletters for businesses to stay informed. 

  • Update databases

  •  Work with members to improve their engagement

  • Organize and populate social media calendar

Requirements:

  • Ability to lift 50lbs.
